Wellborn Cabinet Crafting Cabinetry Solutions
For the Panorama Idea Home, Thrive Home Builders knew they needed to include a few special touches to the interior to complete the custom luxury retreat they aspired to build. Partnering with Wellborn Cabinet proved to be the ideal solution for delivering the look of rustic comfort paired with elegance and functionality.
Located deep in the alpine environment of Breckenridge, Colo., the Panorama Idea Home is a well-appointed ranch-style home that includes six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, spread comfortably over 6,600 square feet. Sweeping views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains combine with high-performance design to deliver a home that is both beautiful and environmentally responsible. When complete, the Panorama Idea Home will be carbon neutral, energy efficient, and built to withstand the harsh winters outside.
Inside, the home is crafted to create the perfect getaway for owners, ideally suited for a weekend ski trip or summer retreat.
To accent the natural elements, Wellborn Cabinet was selected to provide cabinetry solutions tailored to the specific design and functional needs of the space. Environmental stewardship has been part of Wellborn Cabinet Inc’s culture since the beginning.
Wellborn’s integrated process allows them to maintain the quality of your cabinets every step of the way, from sawmill to shipping. This gives them greater control over the entire experience from lumber selection to delivery.
Keying in on a few specific opportunities in the bathroom, kitchen, and family entrance or “mudroom,” Wellborn crafted multiple styles and configurations for the Panorama Idea Home, delivering both the functionality and elegance Thrive needed.
“They really did an amazing job,” says Gene Myers, founder and Chief Sustainability Officer of Thrive. “The whole look and feel are perfect and fit in with the mountains and forest outside, and also with what we wanted to deliver inside. There were a few specific things they created that were really impressive.”
Functional Beauty
The entire home features a nature-inspired finish palette, with River Rock on Oak Finish and Pebble on Maple in the kitchen for a rustic charm, while incorporating Muriel, a Wellborn micro shaker design, for a touch of modern style.
Curated from Wellborn’s broad selection of door styles, finishes and configurations, furniture vanities are utilized across the residence, extending even to the garage powder room, infusing character into every corner of the house.
“Wellborn’s ability to modify cabinets helped our interior designer really create something that felt like you were stepping into a high-end spa or hotel,” says Myers. In one bathroom, a vanity-style table was elevated to accept a vessel-style sink. “Because they were willing and able to accommodate these sorts of modifications, it really makes for some unique features.”
Storage is Key
Even with the ample floor space, the overall aesthetic of the Panorama Idea Home is to enjoy the open space within and outside the home. With year-round opportunities for entertaining, recreating, and relaxing, abundant and functional storage is a necessity.
Two elements in the “mudroom” provide examples of Wellborn’s talents. The mudroom is situated as the main entrance at the back of the house and is expected to be the primary entry point for the family after returning from a day on the slopes or a bike ride in the woods.
An innovative cabinet drawer bench greets occupants upon entry and offers both function as a place to rest and remove exterior gear and garb, but also doubles as a storage space for larger, bulkier items.
Nearby, a clever pantry cabinet is installed with floor-to-ceiling storage options and a floor-flush door.
“The pantry cabinets are really designed for skis,” says Myers. “They have no floor, so any snow or ice on them can melt and drain away underneath without ruining any of the cabinetry.” A similar full-height pantry system is also installed in the laundry room, providing storage for more long-term needs.
Returning to the overall goals of the project, Myers notes that Wellborn was also a wise choice due to their finish options.
“All the cabinets are pre-finished before delivery, which makes it much easier and faster for us to install. Wellborn also meets all the low-VOC requirements for the Indoor airPLUS program by the EPA,” says Myers.
